Laser hair removal works by sending beams of concentrated light through the pigment (melanin) in the hair. This converts to heat and damages the hair follicle and hair bulb. Lasers can selectively target dark coarse hairs while leaving surrounding skin undamaged. Apart from smoother skin and permanent hair reduction, LHR has added benefits in reducing ingrowing hairs and pigmentation related to them. Multiple treatments are necessary because hair follicles are all at different stages of their growth and it is advisable for the client to avoid waxing, tweezing or plucking in the weeks prior to treatment. Sun exposure before and after treatment must be avoided.
